Introduction

The Bangladeshi Cricket World is composed of renowned cricketers, one of the notable amongst them being Shakib Al Hasan. Born on 24th March 1987 in Magura, Khulna, Bangladesh, Shakib discovered his passion for cricket at a young age and decided to make it his career.

Early Life and Start of Career

Shakib’s family was always supportive of him wanting to pursue sports as a profession. He attended Islampur Para School in Magura where he honed his skills under the school’s cricket coach. Shakib then attended the Government Akbar Ali College Lalmonirhat and later moved to Dhaka in pursuit of better opportunities. At just 16 years old, he ended up playing professionally; joining BKSP – a popular sport institute.

International Career

In May 2006, Shakib’s professional journey took off when Bangladesh ‘A’ toured Zimbabwe and Uganda. His prowess on the field caught the eye of selectors and he got introduced into international cricket later that year against Zimbabwe. In 2009, he began serving as vice-captain of the national team, demonstrating leadership aspiration right from his early days.

Achievements

As a true all-rounder both in One Day International (ODI) and Test matches, Shakib has numerous records to his name. In ODIs, if run aggregate is considered for all-rounders who have taken over 1,000 runs and picked up more than hundred wickets, only five others are found with a higher average than him. Since August 2009 till date Shakib is ranking constantly under top-two position in ICC ODI Allrounders ranking.

Award Receptions

In recognition to his efforts and achievements, Shakib has received the Wisden Cricketer’s “Test Player of the Year” award in 2009. Moreover, he is also rewarded as a second successive best player by the LG ICC awards for Tests.
