About Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, widely acknowledged as one of the greatest cricketers in history, was born on April 24, 1973, in Bombay (now Mumbai), India. Tendulkar enjoyed a career that spanned more than two decades and saw him break numerous records in international cricket.
Early Life & Career Beginnings
Tendulkar’s love for cricket began at an early age when he was introduced to the sport by his older brother Ajit. He showed an inherent talent for it at a very young age. In fact, at just fifteen years old, he made his debut in first-class cricket for Bombay.
Dominance in Domestic Cricket Circuit
A year later, following outstanding performances in domestic cricket leagues, Tendulkar became the youngest Indian player to make a regional debut and has since amassed over thousands of runs in domestic games representing Bombay (now Mumbai).
Rise to International Fame
In 1989, at the tender age of sixteen, he represented India in Test matches against Pakistan, thus becoming the youngest Indian player then ever to represent his nation internationally. Following some promising performances initially, Tendulkar established himself as a top-order batsman with his maiden century coming against England at Old Trafford.
Record-breaking Career
Throughout his career, Tendulkar broke scores of records — including being the first player to score one hundred centuries in international cricket; attain over 10,000 runs in One-Day Internationals(ODI); complete double-hundred ODI innings; reach 14k (14000) runs in Tests; and bag 15k (15000) runs in ODIs.
Post Retirement
Tendulkar announced his retirement from ODI cricket on December 23, 2012, and from Twenty20 English county side various competitions the following year. He played his last Test match against West Indies in November 2013, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Legacy & Honors
Despite retiring from active sports, Tendulkar’s influence on cricket continues today. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna – India’s highest civilian award – same day as his retirement was justly celebrated for his outstanding dedication to the sport. His legacy is firmly entrenched not only within Indian sports culture but also amongst the global cricket fraternity.

Aside from his incredible contribution to cricket, Tendulkar has also invested time and resources into social causes such as education, healthcare, and fighting poverty.
