Introduction

Rohit Sharma is a well-known Indian international cricketer who represents Mumbai in domestic cricket and captains the Mumbai Indians team in the Indian Premier League. A right-handed batsman, Rohit is acknowledged for his exceptional batting style, which has brought multiple records to his name.

Early Life and Domestic Career

Rohit Gurunath Sharma was born on April 30, 1987, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. Despite losing his father at an early age, he developed an interest in cricket thanks to his uncles’ influence. His professional cricket career started when he joined a cricket camp with coach Dinesh Lad at the age of 11.

In the domestic circuit, Rohit initially played for Deccan Chargers from Hyderabad before moving to the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise in 2011. Under his leadership as captain since 2013, MI emerged victorious in IPL championships several times (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 & 2020).

International Career

Making his One Day International (ODI) debut against Ireland in June 2007, Rohit established himself as a mainstay player due to consistent performances. It was during the Champions Trophy tournament held that year where he showcased his prowess as a stand-out middle-order batsman for India.

Owing Records and Achievements

Sharma holds numerous cricket records including being the only player to score three double centuries in ODIs and four hundreds in T20 internationals. Among these monumental scores include ODI’s highest by any batsman–264 runs against Sri Lanka in 2014. He also secured other records having fastest century (35 balls), second Indian player to reach 8,000 runs in T20 cricket and highest individual score by an Indian in World Cup history.

Personal Life

Rohit got married to his long-time girlfriend Ritika Sajdeh on December 13, 2015. They both have a daughter named Samaira who was born in 2018.

Awards and Honors

Roghit Sharma has been bestowed several awards for his exceptional performances throughout the years including – ICC ODI Player of the Year: 2020, Golden Bat award (2019 Cricket World Cup), Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (2020). Earning respect from players worldwide, Rohit is touted as one of most influencing player in modern-day cricket history.
