Early Life and Background

Jasprit Bumrah, as he is usually known in the cricketing world, was actually born Jasprit Jasbirsingh Bumrah on December 6th, 1993. The famous Indian cricketer grew up in Ahmedabad, a city located within the state of Gujarat in Western India. He lost his father when he was only five years old which led to his mother shouldering the responsibility of raising him and his sister by herself.

Career Beginnings


Bumrah started taking an interest in cricket due to its prominence as a sport in India. He played for his school team until one day; he was noticed by Kishore Trivedi who became instrumental in carving out the future course of his career. Trivedi introduced 14-year-old Bumrah to Niraj Patel then chairman of Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). After noticing his exceptional talent, GCA decided to sponsor his education and training.

Rise To Fame

In 2013, at only 19 years of age, Bumrah made it on to the national scene when he debuted for Mumbai Indians in IPL (Indian Premier League), showcasing some brilliant bowling speed that impressed everyone watching. This moment served as a catalyst for his extraordinary career moving forward.

Milestone Years

The year 2016 marked another milestone for Bumrah’s career when he debuted in One Day Internationals (ODIs) against Australia. Despite being new to international cricket, he took the challenge head-on and ended up becoming one of the highest wicket-takers for India in ODIs that year.

It was also during this time that Bumrah gained recognition for mastering “yorkers” – a style of delivery wherein balls are bowled directly at batsmen’s feet, catching them off guard.

Physical Conditioning and Injuries

Like all other sportspeople, injuries also played their part in Bumrah`s career. He underwent a back stress fracture in 2019 which affected his performance for much of the year. However, with strong determination and resilience, he recovered completely making his comeback into active cricket later that year.

Accomplishments and Recognition

Jasprit Bumrah has emerged as one of the most promising bowlers in world cricket today. His ability to consistently deliver fast pace accompanied by impeccable accuracy against formidable batsmen on diverse pitches across various tournaments, including IPL and international tests/ODIs/T20s, has been widely acknowledged.

He was rewarded for his performances when he was named in ICC’s ODI Team of the Year twice consecutively, for 2017 and 2018. Additionally, he grabbed two Position Awards from ICC at the end of 2020 – Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Decade award and Spirit of Cricket Award of the Decade.

Bumrah is not just an athlete but an inspiration for millions worldwide demonstrating that talent combined with tireless effort can lead to global recognition regardless of background or personal tragedy.
